New Zealand

New Zealand (Aotearoa in Māori) lies in the South Pacific and is historically considered part of the Polynesian cultural sphere. The landmass consists of two main islands in the North and in the South of the country, as well as several hundred smaller islands. Wellington is the capital of New Zealand, while the largest cities include Auckland in the North Island and Christchurch in the South Island. The climate is mostly temperate, and very similar to that of Western Europe. New Zealand counts among the most developed economies in the world and its 5 million inhabitants mostly live in highly urbanized areas in the North Island. Its export industries are traditionally in the agricultural sector. The modern-day state of New Zealand was created in 1907 as a constitutional monarchy and parliamentary democracy, whose sovereign is King Charles III, represented by a Governor General. The official languages are English, Māori, and New Zealand Sign Language.
