Visits by foreign dignitaries

Numerous foreign dignitaries visit the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg as part of bilateral visits – whether on state, official, working or courtesy visits – as well as for international conferences or seminars.

Protocol and logistical arrangements

The Directorate of Protocol and Chancellery is responsible for protocol and logistical arrangements for these visits, particularly where meetings are scheduled with His Royal Highness the Grand Duke, the Prime Minister, the Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, and other members of the Government. 

To ensure smooth organisation and an appropriate reception, the Directorate of Protocol and Chancellery acts as the main point of contact for ministries and diplomatic missions in their preparation and organisation. Its tasks include, in particular, coordinating appointments with Luxembourgish officials, drawing up the programme, and making the necessary logistical and practical arrangements.
