Chairship of the Council of Member States of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance

On 1 December 2023, Luxembourg assumed the chairship of the Council of Member States of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance (International IDEA) for 2024.

Founded in Stockholm in 1955, International IDEA is an intergovernmental organisation dedicated to promoting global democracy, good governance, and the rule of law globally. Since its accession in 2018, Luxembourg has actively participated in International IDEA's activities, sharing its objectives of promoting and strengthening sustainable democracy at national and international levels.

Luxembourg has chosen gender and democracy as its thematic priority for 2024, while simultaneously emphasising two crucial sub-themes: climate change and digitalisation. This decision underscores Luxembourg’s commitment to addressing pressing global challenges in a manner that upholds democratic and inclusive principles and promotes equality for all.
